There is something deeply striking and awfully e.e cummings about Elbow’s latest offering build a rocket boys! with its’ distinct and purposeful lack of capital letters on song titles. On the whole, I don’t really like the new album, but one track in particular absolutely LEAPS from the speakers.

Last night saw the rather stalwart Northern group headline the first episode of the new Later…with Jools Holland series on BBC2, playing ‘lippy kids’ in the process, and boy was this song a heart-wrencher. Introduced in typical Jools style as El-BÓW.

The slurring gospel Ooo’s which back Guy Garvey’s sincere vocal and rather tonal lyrics about the confusion and cliché of childhood, are extremely gorgeous and moving.

I was vouching for my Swedish dude The Tallest Man On Earth to take home the prize of best performance, but those “lippy kids”, wow!
