mp3: The War On Drugs – ‘Baby Missiles’

Before pursuing a successful solo career, Kurt Vile (one of my stars of the year thus far), was once a resident of a Philadelphia based group who call themselves The War on Drugs. Kurt’s departure seemingly had no ill effect, as the band (now a trio) signed with Secretly Canadian shortly after.

This ones a bit of an anomaly, but in general their music is undeniably similar, primarily in vocal style/attitude, which isn’t surprising given their Philadelphia roots.

Listen to the lead single from the upcoming album Slave Ambient, out August 16th. Since it sounds a bit like Arcade Fire on drugs, alas a pretty unsuccessful war. Thanks to Steve Swift for the tip.
