The Mercury Prize Shortlist 2011
The annual Mercury Prize is back, saluting the best British album of the past year, and my my what a bizarre list…
For me, it has to be PJ Harvey hands down. This week, the 41-year-old rightly received her fourth Mercury Prize nomination for her masterpiece and my album of the year so far Let England Shake, an accolade shared by only one other in its 20-year history: Radiohead (speaking of which…). If she wins, she’ll become the first artist to win the award twice.
Check the complete shortlist below. The winner will be announced on September 6th during the televised event, broadcast as usual live on BBC Two and BBC 6 Music.
I’ve posted a couple of ace tracks from the shortlist below to help you make your mind up.
