Video: M. Ward – ‘The First Time I Ran Away’

Probably better known as the “Him” half, in ZoZo‘s musical side-project, She & Him, (and as a member of Monsters of Folk), M. Ward makes a welcome return to the familiar fields of his more soothing self.

Have a listen below to the acoustic calypso vibes of ‘The First Time I Ran Away’, the opening taste of his seventh solo album, A Wasteland Companion, set to drop April 10th via Bella Union, his first for the label. The germane animation comes courtesy of ‘Chinese Translation’ director Joel Trussell. Everything on show here is simply unblemished and cool.

M. Ward — piano/guitars/voice

Steve Shelley — percussion

Toby Leaman — bass

Tom Hagerman — strings

Jon Graboff — pedal steel

Recorded by Tom Schick at Magic Shop in NYC // Mixed by Mike Mogis at ARC in Omaha, NE
