Download: Mac DeMarco – ‘I’m A Man’

Managing to evade almost all trace of machismo (in fact quite the opposite), here we have the ideal tongue-in-cheek musical supplement for men the world over. With a name conjuring connotations of the 90s (and equally awful art-work to match), Vancouver garage-dweller Mac DeMarco could soon find his Shaft-esque voice soundtracking the next Lynx advert.

The welcome contrast is therefore all the more uplifting and assertive, when this beautiful 3-chord-trick chorus slots right in. A melodic guitar line picking out all the right notes behind what I initially thought as a backing-vocal-army of Damon Albarns. The two sections are genre worlds apart, but they work together so seamlessly.

Download this funky little anthem below.

Mac DeMarco’s proper debut Rock and Roll Night Club, leaves home on March 20th with help from Captured Tracks.
