Video: Tennis – ‘Origins’

With a video directed by Richard Law – the go-to-man for Real Estate and Julian Lynch videos – here’s a song by Tennis, the first single released in December last year from their new album Young and Old.

After becoming obsessed with Alt-J (∆) and their insane bass monster creation ‘Fitzpleasure’, I’m slowly starting to pin down which elements of music make me tick the most.

One those components is an adhesive bass-line. It’s all about rhythmic integration with the drums – they play off each other like best friends out on the pull. But I don’t think it’s necessarily the fuzz at all (although that helps). And I’m certain of the effect it has, since leaving the scene for a brief while before making a welcome return in the final chorus at 2.15 pushes actual enjoyment. This is the in-depth science of music ladies and gentlemen.

Young and Old is out now on Fat Possum.
