Watch Bon Iver at AIR Studios
There’s been a ton of hype surrounding ol’ Bonny Bear as of late. Observe his stupendous victory at the Grammys, the ensuing uproar of identity confusion on Twitter, Justin Timberlake’s impersonation of him on SNL, and Hipster Runoff’s hilariously incessant “exclusive” Bon Iver coverage, and you can fathom some sort of idea of the level this humble cabin dweller has hit. But reluctantly, it’s never really been “about the music”.
The video below is sure to bring things back down to earth. Bon Iver’s British and American labels 4AD and Jagjaguwar, respectively, have joined forces to present a live session from George Martin’s AIR studios, that captures the “original” stripped back “Bon Iver sound” of his debut LP. And it’s just sublime.
Everyone will have become more accustomed to his epic eleven-piece backing band that he’s carried round on tour recently, but here it’s simply Justin Vernon and Sean Carey. Watch as they really deliver tracks from the Blood Bank EP, Bon Iver, and the familiar Bonnie Raitt cover ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’.
