When Your Favourite Songs Started Life As Crummy Demos
Song writing is an evolutionary process. On countless occasions have human beings began brilliant anthems only to later banish their work to wooden drawers, never to lay eyes on it again.
Here you can witness exactly how that writing process occurs, by way of a few polished (and not so polished) home demos. It’s always fascinating to hear the transformation, after essentially rendering the creative procedure in reverse. You really do need nothing more than a few chords, some words and a voice with which to sing a tune. Your band and producer can add the glitter and gold afterwards.
John Lennon/The Beatles – He Said/She Said
Julian Casablancas/The Strokes – I’ll Try Anything Once (You Only Live Once)
Chris Martin/Coldplay – Lovers In Japan
Thom Yorke/Radiohead -Motion Picture Soundtrack
Bob Dylan – Mr Tambourine Man
-James Godwin, June 29th, 2011
Thanks for the blog karma! We need it!
Anyhow – all of these seem impressive to me still as I cannot wrap my mind around writing lyrics or creating anything musical alltogether! Plus, no matter how “unpolished” Chris Martin might think he sounds, his voice always sound sweet and smooth to me!
